Often children are faced with challenges such as a death of a loved one, school issues, bullying, ADHD, anxiety, socialization, military life, different family dynamics, becoming a big sibling and so much more.

They need more practical help, a healing place for them.

These children can be highly sensitive, intuitive, and spirited, with big imaginations and emotions. They’re unfortunately often written off as “too challenging”, “too shy”, or simply “too much”.

They just need someone who’s going to listen and support them as they strengthen their executive functioning skills and social skills.

That’s what we’re here to do!

What are sessions like?

  • We start with 45 min of child-centered therapeutic play. At this age we do not work on goals, have homework, or do talk therapy — instead, we model, model, and model some more .

We role-play alternatives to big behaviors and incorporate activities into their session to help teach executive function and social/emotional skills and vocabulary.

  • This is the age when they start to worry more about friendships, social events, family relationships, and self-esteem.

This can also be when we see more intensive, explosive tantrums and behaviors. This is when they need solid structure and clear rules, as well as clear consequences implemented with respect and kindness.

We introduce goals and session time is spent with more activities towards those goals. We work on emotional vocabulary and self-esteem.

  • We are doing more activities and games to increase vocabulary, communication, and self-esteem.

Goals are added monthly and we do a 15 min online group check-in weekly at this age. We journal more often, practice more reflective activities and dive into our emotions and how they affect our moods and behaviors. We also address bullying and self-care.

  • Parent involvement is an important part of the journey.

We offer several services to support parents and help them build their village.

We also highly encourage parent coaching and utilize the resources provided.
